The Groove -
Berklees Student Voice
October 2000 issue
Review of Coming Undone by Natasha Bishop, Staff Writer
Berklee faculty member, Kaye Kellys Coming
Undone is one of the
best debut albums I have heard in a LONG time! It begins with a 30 second
intro into the album which sets the mood perfectly using vocal effects and a
fabulous drumming track leading us into the title track Undone. This album
contains a spectrum of musical styles, from Kayes beautiful lyrics where not
one word is wasted, to the gorgeous arrangements that implement elements of
jazz, rock and folk, to her soaring melodic phrases and perfectly layered
harmonies, to her strong yet soothing vocals.
This album takes you on a musical journey through truth, self-discovery,
loss, and dreams. Kaye Kellys Coming Undone is a little treasure that
will make a lasting impression in the folk/rock scene. And if she is as good
live as she is on this album, Kaye Kelly will be a perfect addition to the
Boston music scene and the Berklee community. If I had to take ear training
all over again Id definitely take it with her, hell I might actually enjoy
it this time.
I have just come to the sad realization
that I will have to part with
this album tomorrow morning, so I have just ordered my own copy. I havent
reviewed many albums that have come to The Groove that I actually like, sad,
but true. Kaye Kellys Coming Undone has proved to be the exception. I
highly recommend you all get on the web and order this fabulous gem, you will
not be disappointed!
